A good calculator with many features.

Strengths: It's a good calculator for a kid going through Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1. Has all the functions needed.

Weakness: Is not solar-powered like one of its calculator "relatives".

This calculator is great for any kid going through math in middle school. It gets the job done and has plenty of features.

It comes with a slide cover that cleverly avoids scratching the display.

If you are going to use the calculator heavily, you might consider the solar powered version of this calculator. It goes for about $5 more, but just one set of button batteries will cost that much. The solar version has both a solar panel when there is enough light, as well as button batteries.

Scientific Calculator

Strengths: Almost every functions there is, large buttons, easy to read displays.

Weakness: No graphing, displays only 10 digits

This is the perfect calculator to do math problems. It has almost every function there is and very easy to use. This is my 2nd TI-30, the other one lasted for 6 years. Great use for middle and high school students.

Good Calculator

Strengths: Two line display, ability to edit equations, solar and battery power, hard case, 4 memory storage

Weakness: Lacks certain scientific functions, e.g. temperature conversion (CF)

I bought this to replace an old sharp scientific calculator that died after 20 years. This is a scientific calculator that has a two line display for inputing larger equations. However, equations are often removed when you enter equal, leaving ANS. in the display followed by your next inputs. It would be better to leave the previous equation as long as there is space on the display. It will perform all necessary Trig. and algebraic functions. It does lack certain conversion functions such as temperature and metric conversions. The model cannot have everything, but for a scientific calculator, it would be nice to not have to do manual metric conversions. All in all, it is a sufficient calculator for basic math, but there are better calculators with more functions for heavy scientific use.

TI- 30 Scientific Calculator

Strengths: The TI-30 is a very sturdy, versatile and easy to use calculator. It allows enough “power” to the user for calculations, w/o the crippling advantage of being more calculator than a student sometimes needs.

Weakness: No graphing capabilities

I have used a TI-30 (or similar model) throughout my college math courses before graphing calculators became available. I teach high school mathematics and recommend the TI-30 in all my classes from algebra through analytic geometry.

Texas Instruments TI30XA Scientific Calculator

Strengths: Good, fairly complete list of features. All basic math functions are present, as are basic statistics functions.

Weakness: Very cheap feeling. Few problematic keys - discussed in comments.

This is the basic Texas Instruments Calculator. It handles most everything a normal person would throw at it. In this respect, this calculator gets an A++.

However, at least on my product, the keys wiggle quite a bit. This poses a problem specifically with the decimal and Zero keys. If you don't hit these perfectly perpendicular to the calculator they will NOT register. This has caused me more than one headache.

That said - If I were to do it over again - I would pick a more expensive model, or a different company model

Texas Instruments TI30XA Scientific Calculator

Strengths: Easy to use. Buttons large enough for small fingers to use but not so large as to make the calculator itself larger.

Weakness: Is only battery powered.

It does everything my son needs it to do for Math class and should hopefully work for two more years of Math. It is easy to use. He picked it up and intuitively starter using the higher functions without any problems.
Good product. However, I would recommend getting the solar/battery powered version.
