Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Powerful, fast, lots of memory, includes USB cable Weakness: the sliding cover is very very hard to slide off After using a TI-83 Plus calculator for the last 5 years, I decided to upgrade to the TI-89 Titanium. This calculator is unbelievable in its features and power. First of all, it is more suited for advanced math, such as calculus and beyond. If you are a student in a class below calculus or don't do any work that involves such advanced math, then save your money and buy a TI-84 instead. This calculator can also run programs in its Flash memory, which can be downloaded from the TI website. A USB cable is included standard. TI has made the newly designed sliding cover much more secure than the old TI design (TI-83 plus, TI-86, TI-89 regular), whose sliding cover was not very secure and became looser over continued use. Unfortunately, TI may have overdone and made the new cover so secure that it is almost impossible to open. I fear breaking the cover everytime I try to force it off. 91% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

it's worth the priceStrengths: Great capabilities Weakness: if you have never used a grahing calculator, be prepared to spend a lot time reading the manual. Makes math, physics, chemistry classes much easier. Many people in class (including the instructor)will have this calculator. It allows you to focus on the concepts not the math details. 88% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: 3D Graphing, Integrals, More Advanced Statistic Features than TI83+, More Advanced Applications, and much more... Weakness: Other than the text being a bit small for the screen, I can see no other weakness. This calculator was a perfect upgrade from my TI 83+ which I used in high school. Higher level college classes such as Calculus III and Linear Algebra can be greatly enhanced with this calculator. 71% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Titanium not so strongStrengths: Superior Features and useability over any other calculator Weakness: Titanium is much bigger (thicker and bulkier) than the regular (and superior) TI-89 Let me start by saying the regular TI-89 (not Titanium) is HANDS DOWN the best calculator I have ever owned. I had HP 48g and a TI-83 previously and the TI-89 is by far superior. The only reason I was forced to buy the Titanium version is that after 4 years of constant use getting my engineering degree some of the keys down the center of the keypad stopped working. 68% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Good Instruction, USB transfer cable, several times faster than using the original serial ports. More application and functionalities. Allowed it SAT and most standardized test. Comes with appz on CD Weakness: Quite expensive compare to other TI models. More functionailities meaning more complicated to use. Normal users should stick with TI83+ I own a TI83+ but because I heard TI89+ has more functionality, I decided to upgrade. It is a good choice! More functions than TI 83 including integral, derivatives, equation solver and MUCH MUCH more... still trying to figure out how to use the calculator to its full! A must have for engineering students! 65% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Preloaded applications, USB connectivity, graphing and advanced calculus functions, excellent documentation. Weakness: Display not lighted, a bit heavy (~8oz!) The titanium version has 3 times the memory of TI-89 (2.5+MB) for about the same price. Staples had another $20 rebate. It is the most advanced powergraphing calculator allowed in SAT I & II. The button layout is logical and very easy to use, specially if you owned a previous Texas Instruments advanced calculator. Battery life may be a bit short, so load fresh batteries if you are taking this calculator to an exam. 63% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: More powerful than the TI-83 I used in high school. Great having a USB Cable Weakness: Too big to carry around. So much better than the TI-83. I am a Math Major in College and I am sure this calculator will get me through these tough math coarses. I am looking forward to use the USB capabilities to it's fullest. I am glad I upgraded to the TI-89. 60% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

TI 89 is the most advanced calculator on the marketStrengths: Powerful programs that take much of the tedium out of performing mathematical computations such as Calculus Made Easy Weakness: It will simplify trig eqs with trig exps, but its difficult to get it like the answer text has it. Honestly, I am put out that TI calcs are not keeping up with PDAs as far as technology is concerned. I was told by a friend who was in higher math that if a person obtains an 89 and puts forth the effort to learn how to use it Pre-Calculus would be a "cake walk". He wasn't kidding. I made sure I knew everything possible about how to perform the necessary computations. Between that and studying like I should I ended up acing a class that routinely washed-out 30% or more of the class per semester. In addition to the strong standard applications which TI loads, there are additional applications that make advanced mathematics way more simple. Some of these applications cost money, (such as Calc. Made Easy mentioned above), but most are free. There is definately room for improvement on the TI 89 design. However, I am rating it for what it is, rather than what it could become. Therefore, judging by the ease in which an accustomed person performs advanced calculations that other calculators simply can't do, I would have to give the TI-89 Titanium a 5. The long and the short of it is that currently, the TI-89 is the most advanced calculator on the market. 56% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: fast, 2.7mb of memory, C programming (not on calculator) coming soon, usb cable (don't need to get $18 graph link) Weakness: no keyboard but that's not allowed on the ap exams I got this for $128 after taxes and rebates from CircuitCity and I really like it. The resolution is decent, and though it's not much different from the TI 89 (more pre-installed applications, startup screen, usb, more memory), the price is right. Programming is useful on calculators but it will never be like Windows Mobile 2003 or desktop computer programming. If you're looking for a programming toy, get a pda or cell phone. 51% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Great calculator. DEFINATELY better than a TI-83 or my Casio 9850G. Lots of programmability. VERY useful for college math classes! Weakness: The manual they provide is not even creasing the cover of what this thing can do. Detailed manuals are available online. If you are an engineer or any math-related major, then this calculator will be your best-friend. Trust me on that one. I only wish I had gotten it sooner, it would have helped me even more. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Highly AdvancedStrengths: great graphics rendering, ease of use, "pretty print" Weakness: advancing from an older calculator The calculator is great, but I'm previously used to using the TI-84 Silver & TI-83 Plus, and there's a bit of a learning curve in transferring. There are more features, most are more advanced, and certain things are simplified like pretty print, and factoring. I highly recomend this for anyone that's in Calculus/equivalent, or higher. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Excellent calculator for engineering studentsStrengths: Many features, powerful, more memory Weakness: Slightly complicated to use, a little expensive The TI-89 Titanium is my second calculator. There is no comparison between this calculator and my old TI-83 Plus. This calculator has more features than the 83, stuff I need for my engineering classes. It also performs calculations very quickly, although to enter your calculations may take a little time to getting use to. The price of this calculator was significantly more than the 83, although I used coupons which made the price comparable to the new TI-84 (replacement for the 83). 40% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Excellent User Interface, programs, built in functions Weakness: A little bulky This is an excellent calculator that has been an integral part of any calculus experience. It saves so much time, and simplifies the process of finding answers. Do not get it for young high school students, for it will get the answers without a need to understand fundamental calculus. 40% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Does everything you need for college math/engineering. Many programs to help you solver complex problems. This calculator has 3 times the memory of the regular Ti89. So that you can hold Weakness: Expensive. Not really many others, except that most of the people in high school will be using a Ti 83 and there programs are not compatible with a Ti 89. This is a great calculator. There are many sites that have programs available to help you out. This is the best calculator to get in high school if you are planning on taking calculus or engineering classes in college, because most all of the classes will use this calculator. 33% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: Easy navigation of menus, lots of memory, clear user's manual, allowed on SAT, powerful graphing calculator. Weakness: Expensive, almost too many functions for a high school student to spend time figuring out, might be better suited for an engineering student in college. Great calculator with a lot to offer, would not be a bad calculator to buy as a high school student who will use it later in college, but I would recommend a more basic model (TI83+) for a high school student who needs a calculator just for high school classes. 33% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorStrengths: The best graphing calculator available without qwerty keys. Weakness: None really. If you're familiar with Texas Instruments graphing calculators, then you know this is one of the best. And TI has updated it's 89 version to this Titanium version with more memory. If you're not familiar with graphing calculators, this one is probably not the one for you though. It can be difficult to use. 20% of readers found this review helpful. Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing CalculatorIt has all the power and features you will need for just about any math class. There is a little bit of a learning curve to it, a little more difficult if your teacher explains everything on the TI-83. great for the money when I got it for cheaper than the TI-84 silver edition. 17% of readers found this review helpful. TI-89 titaniumStrengths: best cas calculator along with the TICas Weakness: trig conversions and tripple integrals The TI-89 is the best calculator on the market other than the TI-Cas. It does 3d graphing and integrals but partials would be nice. Needs a polar, cylinder, sphere conversion. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 | Titanium version
The TI-89 is a popular graphing calculator made by Texas Instruments, originally released in 1998. It features powerful computer algebra system (CAS) that can solve albebraic expressions in symbolic terms; most other calculators solve in terms of number only. For example, entering (x^3-x^2-8x+12)/(x+3) returns x2 − 4x + 4, which is pretty printed by default. The current version of the... Top

Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium Graphing Calculator
Strengths: AP Calculus, AP Physics, and Engineering Capabilities.
Weakness: Software (TI-Connect) to put programs on the calculator could be easier to use for those not computer oriented.
I know I say experience for fours days (I have had my own for four days), but I have used the calculator for about a year, as I have used my friend's.
For a few years, I had the TI-86, and for graphing purposes and playing games of course, this was all that I needed to do. But when I went into Calculus, graphing alone was not enough. The TI-89 Titanium performs integrals and derivatives, and with Calculus Tool (program that you can download from the TI website) you can even do implicit differentiation. Also, with another download it is possible to do volumes by disks and washers.
Now that we have put some very helpful calculus function behind, it is a very helpful physics and engineering tool. From 34 physics (including circuits) constants (from -1.602 X 10 to the 23 to Avogadro's Number) to graphing analysis of buildings for civil engineers, this calculator can do it all.
The interface of the calculator is the best. I was continually clinging onto the TI-86 through the calculus year until finally me friends convinced me otherwise right before the exam. But even more convincing was just how the calculator worked. Instead of getting a large decimal for the cos of Pi/2, you get real answers like (radical 2) /2. (The format looks like it would in a math text book.) Also amazing about it is the simplicity to use it. The manual is a little less than 300 pages, but the calculator does so many functions that if you are looking for specific functions, then you can simply skip many sections that may not be of use to you (after all, we are all not nuclear physicists!).
One difference between the TI-89 and TI-89 Titanium is memory. The Titanium holds upwards of 500KB or ram, as the TI site says, which is much more than the just the 89. This way, you can download a lot more physics, math, and game programs in case you ever get bored in History 101 (for the most games, go to ticalc.org). And this brings us to the transfer ability. The Titanium, unlike the regular 89, has a USB port for connectivity, so you do not have to use those old serial ports anymore. The calculator comes with the USB cable for connecting it to your computer along with a USB unit-to-unit USB cable link directly to other Titaniums. Concerning the transfer process from computer to Calculator, the software (it comes with it) is easy to setup, but can be difficult to use if you do not know whether to archive the file to you r calculator or send it as ram. But even before that, sometimes the program fails to communicate with the calculator so you may have to unplug it and plug it in again before it will work completely. But again, if you can find someone that already has all of the programs, you can just use the unit-to-unit cable and get the programs from them.
Therefore, if you are looking for the integral of the ln (2x) + e to the 2x +25x or just plain multiplication, the TI-89 Titanium can do it all quickly ans easily, providing non decimal answers unless you want it to (love that feature). With the TI-89 Titanium you are control!
