Great Flash

Strengths: Full TTL Communication with Olympus SP-570UZ camera, Remote Wireless capability for off-camera flash applications, Lower profile than other flash units.

Weakness: Expensive for an external flash unit. Additional settings & capabilities can make it a bit steep on the learning curve.

I purchased this flash to go with my new Olympus SP-570UZ camera. I wanted to get the full TTL functionality and was hesitant about other flash units "designed" for Olympus digital cameras. I was a bit surprised at the price of the Olympus flashes, especially since Olympus had only the FL-50R flash under the accessories for this camera.
After searching and emailing Olympus I decided on the FL-36 Series, then had to choose between the standard FL-36 and the FL-36R which has the remote wireless communication. I found the FL-36R for just a few dollars more than the FL-36 so decided to go with the latest model and the remote communication.
The flash works great! I set it for Auto TTL, put it on the camera and proceeded to snap several pictures where the built-in flash was too weak before. They came out great, with just the right brightness. I then tried to make it "fail" by getting very close to objects to be photographed, backing far away from from dark areas (about 45 feet), etc. and each time the photos came out perfect. No washed out or dark shots.
Next I tried the wireless remote functionality and that was very cool. I could set the flash unit in a prime location in a room and then move about with the camera (w/o the added size & weight of the flash) to get better picture angles. It worked perfectly every time. Glad I opted for the FL-36R flash unit.
Although it was more than I had expected to pay, I can see possibilities with this flash that I hadn't thought about before. I'm definitely not disappointed with it.
