Awesome

Strengths: I love the big pen, because you can get a good grip. This tablet is everything it promises and it's not a battery eater!

Weakness: I lost my nibs

Great for the price! I purchased this 2 weeks ago and had some trouble installing the driver, but then I downloaded it and installed it manually from adesso.com and everythings great!

Adesso can run, but Aiptek can't hide, the 12000U

Strengths: Big.

Weakness: Magnetic, battery operated parts, power hungry USB, faulty design.

This appears to be the same tablet as the Aiptek 12000U. I own one, and I'm throwing it out. The ad says "completely USB powered" which is false, of course, since the package contents at the bottom list three batteries. Only the tablet is USB powered, the mouse and pen are battery operated. That's where the problem starts: it's a magnetic tablet, and the pen and mouse need the batteries to power their little electromagnets (you'll see the copper coil in the pen when you pull it apart in frustration). Pressing the buttons cause a small electrical surge (of course, since a circuit is being closed) and the surge is picked up by the tablet causing your mouse pointer to jump. That's problem #1. Problem #2 is that there are two dead areas (complete columns, actually) on the tablet, at least there are on mine, that I have guessed could be caused if your USB port cannot provide enough power, and it appeared that my IBM T42 ThinkPad could not. I had the tablet replaced shortly after it arrived, about four years ago, but never got it working properly. Occasionally I would dig it out and try some new scheme to get it working. Tech support is virtually non-existent - I got one cookie-cutter reply to an email that didn't help, and radio silence after that. Don't think that you are getting twice the tablet for half the price when you buy this thing. Pay the extra money and buy a smaller Wacom tablet. It's only your fingers and your wrist that you will want to move, not your whole arm, so 6x8 is as big as you likely want to go anyway.

The CyberTablet 12000

Strengths: Excellent Graphic Tablet for the price.

Weakness: Like most technology, the more you pay, the more you get. This tablet delivers good basic technology for the price. Although higher end tablets have more features, you really don't need them.

You will not be unhappy with this product. I have one and just ordered another. I run a graphic arts company with 33 associates working with me. I can honestly say that this product delivers what we need.

An excellent Bargain!

Strengths: Large drawing size. 12x9 is plenty of room for just about anyone. Good tracking time, replacement parts (mainly the stylus) are cheap (about $10 from Aiptek.com).

Weakness: Pen is a bit flimsy, and need a battery. Original mouse (not scroll) is completely useless. Also the programmable function buttons are pretty useless, as you cannot assign them to keystrokes.

I want to start off by saying that I work in the graphic design field for a good sized corporation, and I use this tablet nearly every day.

I bought this tablet about 4 years ago when I was still in college, and it works very well to this day, despite several drops, bangs, and being transported around in my backpack a bunch of times.

Originally the pen was fairly jittery, but recent driver updates have drastically improved the response rate and accuracy of the pen. As of 5/18/07 the drivers are v3.15. I use them and my pen is as accurate and responsive as anyone could wish for.

I recently had to replace the flimsy pen my tablet originally came with, Aiptek sells them for about $10 on their website. The one I recently got was much higher quality, and took care of the last of my jittering issue. Since I have had the new pen I have not had one single jitter while drawing in Photoshop or Illustrator

I have used the Wacom Graphire 4x5, and it was too small for any kind of accurate drawing. The small work area was too restricting, and accuracy suffered because your work area was so much smaller than your screen. I have used the Intuos 6x8, and it is a very nice tablet, but not nice enough to justify nearly a nearly $280 higher price tag (Aiptek is currently selling the 12000u from their website for about $70).

The main place where this tablet shines is in its value. Like I have said, it works very well, despite some earlier problems. But for $70 (Aiptek.com) you really cannot go wrong. You get a tablet with a very large workspace (which would cost you about $450 in a Wacom). You get a nicely sensitive pen, with two clickable buttons and a mouse you will never use. But if you wanted to use a mouse, you wouldn't be buying a tablet.

Not Macintosh Compatible

Strengths: None

Weakness: Poor responsiveness, Serious lags, Not accurate for pressure sensitivity or tracking

It looked like a good deal, and the manufacturer says it is Macintosh compatible, but it is neither. The pen tool responds very poorly in Photoshop. Pen pressure is not very configurable. Photoshop never gets more than a 60% opacity from the pen. Tech support is dumbfounded as to why it doesn't work. Personally I think they rushed into creating a Mac driver without testing it.

Looks like I'll be buying another Wacom
